Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare Game Review

CoD4 (Call of Duty 4) has all the criteria of an award-winning first-person shooter, complete with gripping action, a strong storyline, and a diverse setting to keep players eager for more. The game deserves the ‘Game of the Year’ title, if Metal Solid Gear 4 hadn’t budgeted for it 🙂

The game begins with Captain Price, a member of the 22nd SAS Regiment, leading his starting character, Sergeant John ‘Soap’ MacTavish, on a short training mission to infiltrate a cargo ship. Once you collect important data, enemy planes rush to attack, forcing you, Captain Price, and the platoon off the ship as she begins to sink, with fire raging all around you. And that is just the beginning.

CoD4 (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) has a good way of telling the story. Instead of going through the cut scene and subtext, developer Infinity Ward gives the player a first-person view of the missions.

For example, right after the cargo ship incident, you will be shown a scene where the foreign leader is beaten up and put into a car. Here the player views the action through the eyes of the captive. You will be able to witness all the atrocities unleashed by the rebels in your city.

At your destination, you are introduced to Al-Asad, the leader of the revolution who approaches you, points a gun at your face and shoots. Now, that’s a powerful start. Thats not all. If you’ve ever wondered how it feels to watch a city decimated by a nuclear device from the back of a helicopter, this is your lucky day. The sequence is so realistic with the pilot panicking on the radio and his helicopter spiraling to the ground with the aftershock. I still get chills when I see that.

There’s also a mission where you’re in control of machine guns and high-caliber cannons in an upgraded B-52 bomber, aptly named Death From Above, blowing up enemy infantry so a friendly platoon can get through the area.

The best thing about CoD4 (Call of Duty 4) is the way they show you the objectives. On the screen, there will be a compass where a yellow marker will point towards your target and a distance meter to tell you how far you are from it. Even with all that, you find you’re lost, just listen to your radio and you’ll hear your commanding officer barking orders on what to do next.

Single player mode takes you back six to seven hours with difficulty levels ranging from thought to veteran to choose from, but if you’ve got four other controllers you can join your friends on split-screen excursions with a separate mission from the single player mode.

Graphically, CoD4 (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) captures the atmosphere of a town of war, a dank and dark jungle, a dry and dusty countryside, along with the constant talk on the radio, the realistic explosion of a bomb and the sound of bullets whizzing past, the game comprehensively takes you into a war zone
