“Who will raise this child?”

Everyone is whispering to each other. The oldest man in the meeting, finally breaking the silence, points to a middle-aged man with a semi-white beard and asks him, showing a lot of boredom on his face and at the same time with a rather suspicious look about the identity of his parents.

All serenity and silence quickly grows in the crowd after the old man’s question.

All except men and women, young and old, remain silent. They look at each other out of curiosity.

Suddenly, the mute wretch, almost twenty-two years old, Bidogdho appears in the middle of the meeting.

She cannot speak since her birth. Her parents always watch over her. They remain anxious not only because of her physical handicaps but also because of her impeccable beauty. The local mischievous young men often try to seduce her; but she can’t bring herself to go ahead. They only fear for her eldest son, Pothbhrosto, of the influential local politician Batpari Mohajon.

Pothbhrosto has warned all the evil boys who threaten them that if anyone tries to establish an unfair relationship with Bidogdho, he will be beaten and expelled from the village. Therefore, no one dares to harm him.

Pothbhrosto has devised an evil plan to sexually abuse Bidogdho long before. He is the son of an economically well off and politically powerful family. His father Batpari Mohajon controls the politics of this town. This whole town is obliged to show him respect. No one possesses the courage to defy or defy him.

Pothbhrosto knows very well that Bidogdho’s mother, Nirupai Banu, works as a servant in her house. She arrives at her house early in the morning, works hard for hours, and leaves at the end of the afternoon. She sometimes gets something to eat from her house; otherwise, she stars all day. Bidogdho stays at home and anxiously awaits the return of her mother.

Pothbhrosto appreciates the hidden desire to enjoy it for a long period. Today he feels that he is losing control over her. He can no longer tolerate that he still cannot establish a sexual relationship with Bidogdho.
One morning, Nirupai Banu suddenly falls ill. She fakes it and loses consciousness several times. Currently, her health is not strong enough to continue the hard work. But she has no choice but to work like a machine. Her health is falling apart.

Hearing this of a Choton boy from his neighbors, Pothbhrosto, accompanied by his two friends, rushes to the hapless maid’s house and manages to send her to the local hospital. Bidogdho is now home alone. She is crying a lot for her mother.

Her mother, Nirupai Banu, is the only person on this earth who cares for her. Her father, Amulla Sarkar, has renounced the ghost a decade earlier. She has no other brother or sister. Her miseries could end here; goal no. Her paternal uncles Khadok Shanda and Petuk Panda and her children forced Nirupai Banu and Bidogdho to leave their home and property. They have driven them away and taken their home and land.

So, they shelter here like a slum dweller in these dilapidated tiny houses assigned by the government, with shades of tin. His house is almost half a kilometer from Pothbhrosto’s house.
Pothbhrosto arrives and quickly enters Bidogdho’s room. Finding her alone crying in the room, she closes the door as quickly as possible. Watching him close the door, she tries to produce her usual her sound expressing knowing what he wants to get from her. Stopped by him, she is stopped by extreme fear and panic. Pothbhrosto feels excessively excited; he is shaking; now he can’t breathe normally; Rather he is supposed to take long breaths!

He is now not ready to waste even a little bit of time satisfying his lust by raping this helpless, miserable but fully blossomed virgin. Bidogdho tries to open the door so he can escape from this lascivious satan. But fortune is not at all willing to smile on him.

“Lie down on the bed”, Pothbhrosto tries to make her understand through gestures, but she flatly refuses to answer him. She shakes her head in denial.

Pothbhrosto quickly removes his clothes and looks out in the most thoughtful mood through the broken window to see if anyone is present there. His evil spirits jump up in ecstatic joy at not finding any person present there.

Bidogdho is groaning softly on the bed while his mouth is held shut by a strong piece of cloth. Pothbhrosto, after raping her for about half an hour, believes himself to be one of the most influential conquerors in this world. He is about to leave the place safely. But alas! That little boy appears there through the broken window.

“Get out, you scoundrel”, Pothbhrosto gets extremely angry with him.

“I’m not leaving until I know why she’s bleeding and crying in bed.”

Telling him this, Choton quickly flees home. He tells his parents what he has seen there.

Pothbhrosto quickly leaves the place and heads straight to the local “Kheyaghat” bazaar, where he will meet up with his friends and seek their help if needed.

Choton’s parents run to Bidogdho’s house. They are screaming their heads off, berating Pothbhrosto for her fiendish wickedness and trying to comfort her. Soon some people have gathered on the spot; but nobody dares to inform the police.

The next day, Nirupai Banu returns home from the hospital, he faints again and again to find his unhappy daughter, he hits his forehead as if it is better that the forehead no longer exists! People are trying to pacify her, but all her efforts are rendered useless.

Meanwhile, at the request of an unknown person, the police have appeared there. Bidogdho is taken to the hospital to complete his medical exam and file a rape case against Pothbhrosto.
On the other hand, Batpari Mohajon tries to handle the police by offering a large amount of bribe. But his efforts go up in smoke as the officer in charge of the police possesses a fair and uncompromising personality about corruption and theft of leftovers.

The ever-smiling face of the officer in charge has turned violently red, he is trembling a little thinking of the misfortunes of this raped and distraught girl. He tells Batpari Mohajon directly,
“Your son has made a huge mistake; he must be handed over to the law, he can never expect any mercy from me.”

Batpari Mohajon returns home in a brooding and pensive mood. He is completely in a solution of what to do; how he will save the life of his wicked son. He will be hanged if he is proven guilty of him in court. Mohajon can’t even eat and sleep properly; he in fell ill and his health has broken down.

Five months pass. On the other hand, Bidogdho becomes pregnant; Mohajon has gone to great lengths to convince Nirupai Banu to compromise the problem. He has offered her a huge amount of money, repeatedly asks her to abort her. But her effort does not see the light of success. Pondering all these uncomfortable topics, Mohajon is about to die.

Finding no other way out, Batpari Mohajon now looks ahead to the upcoming elections. If the current regime changes through the election, the party supporting him will take office. He hopes that he will handle the administration to free his son anyway. The newly elected government comes to power after elections are held six months later.

Meanwhile, Bidogdho gives birth to a sweet baby boy; she calls him Bidrohi (rebel) in the hope that one day this little Bidrohi will grow old and take revenge for the oppressions that have been imposed on him.

Batpari’s hopes and efforts are finally realized and he feels as relaxed as a landless poor farmer in debt after being released from his debt. His party contributes a lot to save the life of his son. The Home Office issues an order to the local police station to drop Pothbhrosto’s case as it had been filed against him to politically suppress him.
The rape case against Pothbhrosto has been cleared!

Pothbhrosto returns home from an unknown place after almost a year. Many people have gathered in the courtyard of his house. Some young people have been waiting for him since this morning with a bouquet of flowers in their hands. They get excited about getting it and promptly make Pothbhrosto wear the garland!

Pothbhrosto smiles as if he were a great conqueror like Alexander the Great!

His parents cry silently, placing their kisses mixed with affection on his face and forehead repeatedly. Pothbhrosto embraces them and assures them that no one on this earth can harm them. The other men and women are watching and thinking seriously; How powerful they are! How effectively the mighty hands of politics have raised their support for them! They are speechless for a while thinking about the reward of politics!

Some people have also been present before the hut of Nirupai Banu and Bidogdho. They are not strong enough to protest this sheer injustice; they fall silent; some lose control to keep their eyes from shedding tears. Their faces are like withered and broken leaves of trees in winter. Before leaving the hut, they only utter a sentence of their total grievance and despair; but of his firm belief that one day Allah will punish the guilty.
