Disadvantages of parents working abroad

Working in other countries is not an easy task. Also, in addition to the heavy work and dangers they face every day, they must work outside of their homes. This is one of the options of work outside the home that is difficult to cope with for both parents and children.

No matter how foreign workers enjoy each other’s company as they joke around and share funny stories, laugh and shout with joy at their togetherness, when the sun goes down and they return to their respective rooms, they can’t help but feel lonely.

They always think about their families, especially their children, and they always look forward to the day when they go on vacation and reunite with their relatives. They can’t just talk to everyone about family-related issues. Aside from some who have settled in and established friendships in the workplace, many have to keep family matters to themselves.

We could imagine how one would react and feel when there is an accident or an emergency at home. Worse yet, when a family member gets sick and is hospitalized, they may not be there right away to care for their sick child or spouse. The irony is that there are times when workers miss and worry about their families every day, but they can’t find enough time to talk to their loved ones on the phone because work is so busy at times.

One of the difficult situations is when the father or mother who has been working abroad for a long time, their young son cannot recognize them and treat them as a stranger. This often happens with young children who in their young minds could not understand why their parent has to be away from home for a month or more.

No one can replace the presence of a father or a mother in the home. Children who grew up with one or both parents working abroad somehow feel that there is a void to fill. Resentments can lead to misunderstandings between children and parents despite the parents’ sincere efforts to create better relationships. These are some of the disadvantages of families, whose father or both are working abroad.
