We all want to do our fair share to keep the environment healthy and vibrant. The problem is that many of the green living tips you come across require a considerable financial commitment.

But when it comes to gift-giving, whether it’s for a birthday, a special celebration like Valentine’s Day, or even Christmas, there are little things you can do that will benefit the planet without breaking the bank.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Organic flowers

Like organic foods, organic flowers are grown with the earth in mind. In addition, all packaging is ecological and biodegradable packaging. Look for locally grown flowers to reduce greenhouse gases from the transportation process. And consider houseplants instead of flowers. They live longer and keep fresh oxygen in your home.

2.Natural Perfumes

Most perfumes are created synthetically, using synthetic extenders and elements like diethyl phthalate. But you have a choice. More and more perfumes are turning to botanical extracts for their aromas. Some are even using natural animal essences. Stay away from synthetics. Go natural!

3. Recycled paper cards

Almost all special occasions are accompanied by cards. Make sure the cards you hand out are made from recycled paper. If you want to go a step further, consider sending an email card or eCard and save a tree. Better yet, make your own card. There is nothing quite as special as a homemade card.

4. Kitchen Scrap Vessel

This is something new in our popular green living tips. As more and more people start their own backyard gardens, composting is becoming a natural extension of the process. What makes a great compost? Kitchen remains. But no one wants an old bucket on the kitchen counter where the leftovers go. So… the kitchen waste pot or kitchen compost pot. They fit perfectly into the decor and many come with a carbon filter to drastically reduce odors.

5. Organic cotton robe

There’s nothing like a morning lounging around the house in a plush robe. Turn it into an organic cotton robe and you’ve got yourself a great gift for the eco-conscious recipient. Organic cotton is grown in a way that replenishes soil fertility and reduces the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. It is already being used for a variety of foods and fiber products.
