Espit Chupitos is a famous bar in Barcelona, really an authentic attraction of the city that you should not miss during your Spanish night. Espit Chupitos is a shot bar. What is a shot? A chupito is a chupito, an alcoholic beverage served in small glasses. It can consist of one type of alcohol or a cocktail of different alcohols, mixed with other often stirred, mixed or layered drinks.
The particular thing about this place is that they offer a list of 500 original shots, all unique and protected by copyright -that is to say, you can have original shots only in one of the Espit Chupitos bars- and they are served with plays, tricks and fun games. Many shots involve fire, candy, tricks, and in one case whipped cream and a sex toy (this one is called “Monica Lewinsky” …). If you want to see some interesting fire games, order a Harry Potter or The Devil’s Pact. Espit Chupitos also offers cocktails: if you go with friends, try the 1 liter glass to share with straws.
A single shot is quite cheap, it costs 2 euros, a liter glass costs 10. But why this “How to survive” guide? Well, Espit Chupitos is not a bar like the others, so you have to be prepared for the experience to enjoy it to the fullest. Here it is:
o It is very likely that if you go towards midnight, the bar will be full of people and the temperature is very high (also due to the fire). Be patient and take your time.
o Shots are served at the bar: if it is full of people you have to wait to order and get your space at the bar. Try to be there when someone leaves a place.
o When you finally get to the bar, don’t leave it to go to the bathroom, to meet friends, or to smoke outside. The suggestion is to stay there until you have enough or you will have to wait a few more minutes.
If you are looking for a place to have a drink in a relaxed atmosphere and chat with your friends, well, better avoid this place. Espit Chupitos is a crazy bar, always full of people and with a very fun atmosphere.
You can find some Espit Chupitos located in different parts of the town: the “original” of Barcelona, the most famous, is located on Calle Arribau 77, on the right-hand side of the Eixample district; a second is near there, just five minutes walking and it is inside the ‘La Fira’ nightclub: it could be a good option to continue your night of partying since you can continue taking your shots and dancing on stage. It is a place between a bar with some tables and sofas to stay with friends and a disco that plays local Spanish, pop and commercial music. The address is Calle Provença 171, between Aribau and Muntaner. You can find a third Espit Chupitos in the Gothic district near the port (Paseo Colón 8). If you’re partying in the Las Ramblas areas, especially near the Columbus statue, think about hitting this bar for (at least) a couple of drinks. These three are probably the best known bars in Espit, but here others are in the family: El Gato Negro in Consell de Cent 278, La Sal Barcelona in Avinguda de Manuel Azaña and two more in Sabadell and Tarragona. Espit Chupitos is the right place to start the night, before going to a club or some other bar with friends.
