Makita BHP451 review: Read my detailed overview of one of Makita’s best hammer drills

If you’re looking for a new hammer drill/driver, you might want to take a look at the Makita BHP451 18V. This particular Makita has a ton of features you don’t find in other hammer drills and is sure to help you finish just about any tough job. that you ask

The Makita BHP451 comes with a new battery technology known as the Lithium-Ion LXT system and offers many advantages over the standard NiCad or NiMH batteries found in many drills.

Not only do you get around 1400 cycles of battery life with this new technology, but the runtime is much longer, it charges much faster, and the batteries are lighter. This means less worry about wearing out your arm during heavy drilling. These lithium ion batteries also come with built-in shock absorption features to help protect them and the drill.

Another really cool feature of the Makita BHP451 is the new 45 minute Optimum Charger. It uses a built-in memory chip in the battery and a CPU chip in the charger to communicate with each other. The purpose is so that the charger can analyze the battery data and determine the best charging method at that time.

Although the Makita BHP451 is a high-powered drill that has 560 in./lbs. of torque, it’s still fairly compact and lightweight. At just 9-7/8 inches long and 4.9 pounds, you can drill for long periods of time without tiring.

There are also 3 speed settings you can choose from: 0-300 RPM on low, 0-600 on medium, and 0-1,700 RPM on high gear. This ensures that you can always choose the perfect speed for whatever project you’re working on.

In hammer mode, this drill delivers up to 4,500 BPMs in bottom gear, up to 9,000 in middle gear, and an astonishing 25,500 BPM in third and top gears. It’s also extremely easy to switch from drilling to driving mode with the new Shift-Lock drive system.

Another great feature of the Makita BHP451 is the LED light. If you often work in smaller or darker spaces, you’ll really enjoy this addition.

The Makita BHP451 has an exceptional amount of power, is lightweight and comfortable to hold, has a really great battery system, and many other great features. Overall I think this is an amazing hammer drill/driver and worth checking out for yourself.
