X-Lite X-701 Helmet Review

According to its manufacturer, X-Lite, the X-701 helmet has undergone several aerodynamic tests in laboratories and on the race track. The material is a combination of carbon fiber, fiberglass, and Kevlar. The inner shell is made of durable Lexan. In Sharp’s valuable safety test, the helmet earned four stars out of five.

The interior is said to be heat-adjusting Unitherm Light microfiber, supposedly not sweating in hot weather and hot in cold weather. It is removable for easy washing. On your head, the helmet feels lighter than it actually is. It says it’s 1390 grams, but when I compared the weight of the helmets to other helmets of similar weight category, it felt the lightest among them. The weight of the helmet doesn’t really matter that much for your safety.

What matters is the weight distribution of the helmet and the thickness of the outer shell in the area of impact. If the center of gravity of the helmet is high, the helmet will damage the neck further in the event of an accident. The helmet’s carbon fiber and kevlar are said to also spread the impact of blows to a wider area.

The interior material is quite nice and it doesn’t feel sweaty at all. I think the helmet design has been done successfully and when riding the helmet feels cool even with the air intakes closed. The X-701 is pretty loud as it is, but I think if you seal the neckline it would help tremendously.

Overall, the helmet is comfortable to wear and the airflow is definitely well done. The only flaw I could find was the noise level. Remember, while it’s comfortable on my head, it doesn’t mean it’s for yours, and you should always test headsets live before purchasing, if possible.
