Plantar Fasciitis Secrets for Immediate Relief – Part 1

Plantar Fasciitis Secrets for Immediate Relief – Footwear 1

The secrets to getting immediate relief from plantar fasciitis pain is to make sure your foot is well supported when you are weight-bearing, walking, and active. Support for your feet is important as it requires you to make sure your foot is supported in a way that allows you to walk freely and easily while helping to relieve pressure from the plantar fascia…a structure of soft tissue that is important for holding the foot in its proper alignment.

Most problems affecting the feet, legs, knees, and hips tend to be related to misalignment or direct traumatic injury to the area of concern. With plantar fascia injuries, direct trauma tends to occur during sports, running, jumping, or high-impact activities like boxing or aerobics. Although work injuries can also cause problems. Jumping off the side of a truck and landing on uneven ground, drummers in bands, retail workers who work on their feet all day. Construction workers, landscapers, and concrete cutters can sustain this type of blunt trauma injury. Even the home gardener can sustain injuries, like using the humble old spade/shovel when he wears soft shoes that don’t support the bottom of his feet. Support for the feet and plantar fascia can come in many different forms. The first and easiest way is footwear.

Footwear runners… joggers, athletic shoes are ideal as they provide full closed support for the feet. Supportive runners should include… a rigid heel (shoe heel) with soft padding. Flexible through the ball of the shoe (ie the toe section of the shoe should bend where the toes bend) and firm through the midsole of the shoe. They should ideally have laces. Why laces you ask… the important thing is that the laces can be adjusted to the size of the foot. Foot size and foot fluid volume vary from day to day and having laces will allow you to accommodate those volume changes. Then the insole, shoe lining, or footbed should be removable. So if any other style of stencil needs to be placed inside, this can be done very easily.

Footwear Sandals… Many people wear sandals, especially in warmer climates. There are sandals that are ideal for supporting the foot with plantar fasciitis and there are sandals that are not. I highly recommend investing in sandals that have a contoured sole and that the sole of the sandal is made from a cork or EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) base. If you go to many of your specialty shoe stores, outdoor, camping, or hiking shoe stores, you’ll find numerous styles of sandals to try that will help support your plantar fascia. Some of the brands include… Naot, Teva, Keen, Homy Ped, just a few brands that will help you hold onto your feet.

One of the important secrets of plantar fasciitis is to wear the correct shoes to help support your feet when you have pain and discomfort. If you find that you are not successful in shoes alone, you may need to visit a podiatrist (foot specialist) or doctor for help.
