Twilight Birthday Party – New Moon Birthday Party

Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight book series has been a huge hit with tween and teen girls. What better way to celebrate the birthday than a New Moon or Twilight themed party? Here are some ideas to make it happen.

First, you’ll need cool party invitations. You can print color copies of book covers, characters, or movie posters to use on the front of your handmade invitations. Using your computer fonts, you can write the invitation in a calligraphic-style typeface like Edward would use:

The Cullen family cordially invites you to attend a party in honor of

(Try a font called Edwardian script)

Alternatively, you can use a handwritten doodle like Bella would write to inform your guests of the place and time. An example would be:

Okay, I really hate parties, but Alice makes me invite everyone.

An additional possibility would be to write it like Jacob: cross out lines and rewrite them until you get the correct invite.

For example, you could write:

The bloodsucker invites you to

The leech has a party for…

Bring a jacket, it will be cold.

You’ll need to decide if this is a general Twilight/New Moon party theme, or if guests choose or form teams. You can have team Edward vs. Team Jacob.

Next, you will need food for the party. You can offer guests ‘blood’ to drink, but by putting tomato juice in a non-transparent cup with a straw. You can also make a red fruit punch – add extra ice before guests arrive to make it extra cold or slushy. The hot dogs would be good, grilling them like on the beach in La Push would be even better. Make cookies that look like dog biscuits.

Decorations. You can make them ahead of time or have everyone participate. You can let everyone design posters and have prizes for the best. If you want to do the decorations yourself, let everyone make their own t-shirt, which can be their ‘loot bag’ as a take-home gift.

The posters and T-shirts could read:

  • team jacob
  • Edward’s team
  • Team Cullen Fastball
  • Thrust Diving Equipment
  • Forks, WA
  • Meanwhile, in a little-known town called Spoons…
  • cullen unit
  • my neck belongs to edward
  • Love Me – Edward Cullen
  • Jacob can be my alpha
  • He was pale before Twilight made him popular.
  • Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf? (Jacob)
  • I like my guys cool and bright.
  • The push bike club

Guests can also come up with their own ideas. Have plenty of markers, paint or fabric paint, sparkles, gel pens, etc. It’s a good idea to have scratch paper so the kids can make a preliminary copy before making a good one.

Activities. Kids can learn vampire hip hop dances, play truth or dare, or twilight trivia. Have them dress up or act out their favorite scenes from the movies or books. You can videotape the performances and play them back at the end of the evening, or send them home with a DVD copy.
