A basic tutorial session in Excel 2007

Excel 2007 is the 2007 version of the popular software in Microsoft Office Suite: MS-Excel. This software is used to create charts and graphs. The main advantage of this software is that it consists of spreadsheets, which are nothing more than integrated tables to help the user to do all the work related to the table on one page. Mathematical calculations when inserting formulas are performed using this spreadsheet-oriented software.

However, it is not at all easy to work with for first-time users of this software. For beginners, they should check out certain articles and books that try to provide quality guidance on Excel 2007 training sessions.

Let me introduce you to some quality Excel 2007 tutorials that can help you understand this part of the office suite in a better frame of mind.

Let’s take a look at the basics of Microsoft Excel in its 2007 version:

Let’s open the MS-Office software. The procedure to open it is:

Start-> All Programs-> Microsoft Office-> Microsoft Excel 2007

After clicking, the software will open with a page showing a built-in spreadsheet with rows and columns like this:

In the upper left corner, you will see a colorful MS-Office symbol. This is actually a button that, if clicked, will open a menu page consisting of all the basic options like saving a file, printing, opening a new file, exiting a file, opening an existing file, etc.

Right next to the colorful Office button, you will see some shortcut keys like this:

These shortcut keys include a save, undo, redo button, as well as a few other buttons. If you click the last down arrow button, you will be able to see them all. This shortcut function is better known as the “Quick Access Toolbar”.

Next to it, you will find a written “Book1 – Microsoft Excel”. This is known as the “title bar.” The name under which the specific Excel page is saved will include it here. By default, it shows “Book1 – Microsoft Excel”.

The next in line is the most innovative feature in this version of Excel. It is known as “tape.” It’s just below the “Quick Access Toolbar” and the “Title Bar.” The “Ribbon” is primarily characterized by the entire area as shown here:

As you can see, there are several tabs at the top which, if clicked, will open various menus belonging to the related tab. If you look closely, you will notice that at the bottom are specific things written like “clipboard”, “font”, “alignment”, and so on. Next to these words, there is a small button associated with each of them. Clicking on them will open additional functions and menus for the prescribed words.

Right below, you will find the “formula bar” like this:

This is the place where you can type or insert formulas that will be applied to the given rows and columns to work with.

Although there are many more things, these are the basic things that exist in Excel 2007 to work with.
