All the fun things to do in Dubai

Hi, this is Kish talking about the great entertainment options in Dubai.

Dubai is one of the liveliest cities in the world today. Dubai is also regularly referred to as the City of Gold, the City of Festivals and the Shopping Capital of the Middle East. Dubai has changed dramatically since I moved there in 1994.

When it comes to Dubai entertainment, the city of Dubai could easily be compared to cities like New York, London, Paris, etc. In fact, you’ll find everything these different cities have to offer in one hotspot location; you have done well: Dubai! Check out my list of the best things to do in Dubai here.

Some of the various points of interest in Dubai include the various Dubai parks, Dubai shopping malls, nightlife and restaurants.

The largest mall in the Middle East, MOE (as it would be called by the general public) comprised approximately 2,400,000 square feet of retail space, game area, movie theaters, art gallery, and delicious cuisines from around the world. Its biggest claim to fame is the indoor ski slope, Ski Dubai.

Dubai Festival City, known as the World Class Waterfront Lifestyle Resort, is another destination not to be missed. It includes shops, restaurants, entertainment, homes, schools, hotels and offices in one place. This sub-area of the city of Dubai offers a good microcosm of what entertainment is all about in Dubai!

Stretched out along the Dubai Creek, it gives a feel of the river walk in San Antonio (hey, I live in Texas right now!), only a much cleaner and nicer version. And then there is the ever popular Dubai Gold Market or Souk. Souq translates to a traditional market in Arabic.

This souk which is located in the center of Dubai’s east commercial business district, Deira, has gold practically everywhere. There are narrow alleyways (like Manhattan alleyways, but less scary), streets and buildings lined with gold and diamonds in this area, and people from all over the world trade almost exclusively in jewelry.

The souk has a lot to offer such as earrings, bracelets, pendants, rings and necklaces. Just a quick fact: at any given time, there is over 25 tons of gold on display in the Gold Souk.

Moving on to Dubai nightlife, I didn’t know there is so much in Dubai. After all, I was only seventeen when I moved in, not really the age for parties!

The bars and clubs certainly stay open until 3 am and are located all over the city in large tourist hotels. Dress codes are often relaxed and big-name DJs are quite popular in Dubai, even though some don’t allow jeans, sandals or sneakers. Dubai nightlife is a big part of the complete Dubai entertainment package!

For a quieter night out, you can relax at a seaside cafe and smoke mild-tasting tobacco in a shisha (hookah) pipe. Most cafes and restaurants stay open until midnight or later, especially on weekends. Or, invariably, you can relax at home and be entertained by amazing Dubai TV viewing.
