The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation

Andre Kirk Agassi is the founder of the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation. The professional player founded the foundation in 1994. The mission of the foundation is to provide educational and recreational opportunities to at-risk children. It has given hope to thousands of children to improve character and self-esteem to be more successful in their lives. The organization’s success is made possible by the help of volunteers and donors who have willingly and wholeheartedly given their time, money, and resources to accomplish the organization’s goals. The organization, with its limited resources, chose its partners and grantees in the belief that supporting a limited number of organizations has the greatest impact in developing and complementing valuable programs to further its missions of assisting at-risk youth.

The Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy

Agassi Prep offers academic programs focused on an individualized learning structure with the use of technology in the classroom. It has a very small classroom size but requires parental and community involvement to support the task of building character, motivation, respect, and self-discipline. The academy opened in 2001 and only served grades 3, 4 and 5 at the time. Final development of the campus was completed in 2007. Agassi Prep is now a K-12 campus. Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy is a charter school in the heart of Las Vegas.

The Andre Agassi Boys and Girls Club

Created in 1997, the club was designed to provide activities that model physical, educational, and social growth. It is housed in a 25,000 square foot facility complete with a library and computer lab. A teen center was created to help with the various needs of the club, including an indoor basketball court and three outdoor tennis courts. A large portion of the foundation’s money went toward construction, capital improvements, and club programs. The two most active programs are the Team Agassi youth tennis program and the Agassi Stars youth basketball program. The goal is to use their skills and talents to help them win college scholarships.

Boys Hope/Girls Hope

Boys Hope/Girls Hope serve disadvantaged children whose parents or guardians are unable to provide for their needs. Children from 9 to 14 years old with problems of poverty or abandonment, drug abuse or whose parents want to care but cannot, live in this family environment. This is a place they call home. Agassi’s boys and girls are being treated like their own children and are cared for by full-time staff. Donations for this community go towards needs for food, clothing, medical and dental costs, tuition, recreation, counseling and tutoring. Budget expenses also include other day-to-day expenses, including college scholarships. When families seem to send their children out on the streets and have all the potential to destroy their lives, Agassi picks them up and provides a loving family atmosphere in Boys Hope/Girls Hope.

Changing the world for the better, Andre Agassi supported Child Haven. Child Haven opened her arms 24 hours a day to children ages 3 days to 18 who experienced abuse or neglect. They find protection and solace at Child Haven until they find a safe home. Child Haven is located in Clark County.

Class! Publications

Class! The publication is a free monthly teen-focused newsletter distributed in Clark County high schools. About 400 to 500 high school students work on its content to bring it more appropriate topics for its growing estimated number of 40,000 current readers. The Publication also offers internship programs and three workshops each year. Agassi’s foundation supports the cause of children and is determined to influence the lives of young people for the development and growth of their personal career.

Cynthia Bunker and Joy McClenahan Memorial Scholarships

This was named in memory of Andre Agassi’s childhood friend, Cynthia Bunker. Joy McClenahan was said to be a dedicated volunteer and longtime supporter of the organization. The scholarship is intended for those who are enrolled in the College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nevada.

Great Las Vegas After School All Stars

The organization aims to provide free programs to children belonging to communities of low socioeconomic status. These programs keep children away from drugs and other negative influences in their lives that they may receive from their immediate environment. The program is designed to train and teach life skills. Andre Agassi had discovered it. In order to be productive and successful, there is an urgency to help build the confidence and self-esteem of these children.

IHAD reaches out to low-income communities. IHAD seeks to empower children through long-term mentoring, mentoring and enrichment. The mission is to help these “dreamers” slowly progress on their dreams to become successful people. Kids shop free at Operation School Bell. They choose from shelves of new clothes and shoes. They also receive a backpack and personal hygiene kit free of charge. The cost is on your donors. Thank you for helping these children. The new wardrobe finally gives them the confidence and interest to stay in school.

YMCA of Southern Nevada

The YMCA “Building a Stronger Tomorrow” program was supported by the Andre Agassi Foundation. The effort was designed to renovate the facility and build a new playground and outdoor aquatic center. YMCA opens programs to interested applicants, whether they can pay or not.
