Cabinets and how to renovate them

For many years now, more and more people have taken to the business of renovating different rooms in their homes, mainly due to the influx of new, cost-effective renovation techniques that are all the rage in home improvement circles. One such method is to resurface existing kitchen cabinets, but it can be a bit of a mystery to those unfamiliar with the world of construction. There are many different alternative ways to refresh cabinets, and here are some ideas on that topic.

First of all, there are a few factors that I think are worth considering before you start planning your project. First, you need to determine the current age of your cabinets, because if they are too old, they may not be good enough to refinish, indicating that you need to get a whole new set of cabinets. If they’re of a decent age and still holding firmly in place, you may need to limit yourself to replacing one door and maybe a couple of drawer fronts, then resurfacing the cabinets.

The first step is to disassemble the kitchen cabinets (remove doors, shelves and hinges). You should then proceed to clean all the hardware at your disposal, and once that is complete you can proceed to sand them down to prepare them for re-attachment. Don’t forget to wear protective clothing during this process, as any kind of work that involves destruction can be potentially dangerous.

Once the cabinets have been sanded, you can finally repaint them. Many avenues are open to you, the consumer, ranging from wood veneer to thermofoil vinyl. At this point, all you have to do is make sure that whatever style you use in your cabinetry, it has to match the kitchen and fit into it instead of dragging it down.
