Ten commandments of Ayurveda for a slim body

Proper diet

1) Avoid foods and drinks, which increase Kapha and medha, such as sweets, sweetened drinks, large amounts of carbohydrates and fatty foods. Consuming wheat products more than rice helps. The use of green gram and horse gram helps in the reduction of Kapha. Increase your fiber intake like cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, bitter gourd (Karela), peppermint, and spices like dried ginger, cinnamon, black pepper.

2) Try not to skip meals, well-spaced small meals are desirable. Spreading your food intake improves nutrient absorption, minimizes blood sugar fluctuations, and lowers fat-storing hormones and enzymes. Avoid very sweet, salty or oily foods especially at night, always try to drink warm water.

Lifestyle

3) The lifestyle you lead decides a lot about how obese or how thin you will be. If you lead a lifestyle parked in an office chair for most of the day, or have vices such as smoking, alcoholism, etc., they are harmful and add those pounds of weight. So try to lead a healthy lifestyle.

4) Try to enjoy more sexual activity, do more physical and mental exercises. Daytime sleeping should be avoided at all costs.

Exercise

5) It is better to start with walking followed by running, swimming. Mental effort such as being involved in finding solutions to problems restricts food intake and reduces calorie intake.

6) Yoga has a permanent effect on weight reduction. It helps to achieve control over the mind and behavior (one can easily control eating habits and change lifestyle to avoid obesity). Asanas, Sun Salutations, Pranayama, Agnisar are different forms of yoga that can be done to stay slim.

Body cleansing

7) Panchakarma or five actions, is a program of purification, detoxification, cleansing and rejuvenation for the body, mind and consciousness. Virechana (purge treatment) or Basti (medicinal enema) are useful for weight loss.

8) Steam baths and regular Ayurvedic massages such as udvarthana (weight loss massage) are also recommended.

Using Ayurvedic Herbal Supplements

9) All herbal supplements are safe to use and have no side effects. Guduchi, Amla powder, Triphala or musta can be taken mixed with honey.

10) To stay slim, eat dry and light quality food, without oils or fatty substances. Drink warm or hot water, which should preferably be treated with herbs that have a spicy and bitter taste. Honey with fresh lemon juice is an excellent home remedy.
